Chapter Four - The Beginning of a Long Day

Kagome had barely left the shelter of the well house and was on her way into her home when the wells light became apparent once again. She was worried it was Inuyasha coming to yell at her some more about traveling with his brother. What shocked her though is that the aura coming from the well house wasn’t that of Inuyasha’s, but that of Sesshomaru’s. Dropping her bag she turned around and ran back to the well house.

Sesshomaru couldn’t come here, a place where only humans now resided. He’d surely kill them all if they got on his nerves. She grabbed the door and threw it open. Getting ready to walk inside she seen Sesshomaru picking himself up off of the ground and couldn’t help but laugh at the site.

“Woman, you will stop that excessive laughing and tell this Sesshomaru what this unfamiliar scent is.”

“Its air, but it’s polluted by things you won’t know what are.”

“Miko, I do not have time for your games now tell me!”

“I’m not playing games I’m serious! This is the future, just like I said. Things are here that people back in the feudal era never would have dreamed of. These things pollute the air and make it bad though, that’s probably what you can smell.”

“Hmm, very well then.”

“Well look, I came here for a reason and so I’m going into my house, but seeing as you’re probably not going to leave, I guess you’ll just have to come inside with me. Please don’t kill anyone, my grandfather goes a little overboard and so he’ll probably stick some sutras onto you but please, whatever you do, just ignore him.”

“If it would displease you that much miko, I will refrain from killing anybody here.”
After a minute of trying to figure out if he really meant that or not Kagome turned around and started walking towards the house, not forgetting to pick up her bag on the way in. She was nervous about this and she knew without a doubt Sesshomaru could smell it.
When she and Sesshomaru walked into the house her mother walked around the corner with a plate and a towel in her hands. “Welcome back Kagome. Who’s your new friend?”

“Um well he’s not really my friend mom….do you remember when I told you about Inuyasha’s older brother Sesshomaru?” Even though she didn’t like the idea of telling her mom that this was his brother, she couldn’t very well lie to her mother, especially with something like this.

“His brother... Now that I think about it I do, wait, he tried to kill you who knows how many times! Why would you bring him here?”

“Um, well he wouldn’t let me come without him and he actually saved my life recently, and well he promised me that he wouldn’t kill anybody and with who his is, I don’t think he would go back on his word about that mama.”
Mrs.Higurashi looked from her daughter to this Sesshomaru guy. She was hoping that what her daughter told her was right, and that he wouldn’t actually hurt anybody but he was a demon and from what Kagome had told her about him, it made her kind of skeptical. The silence that came from him made her a little uneasy as well but she decided to let it pass.

“Fine, but if he’s going to stay here with you, he’s going to need to look like he’s from this time…I’ll go and get some of your fathers clothes and he can try them on, Souta can help show him how to put everything on, you’ll just have to get him off that video game he’s been playing non-stop for the past week. “
She wasn’t going to argue with that, and she defiantly didn’t want to be the one to have to show a daiyokai, let alone a grown man how to put on any kind of clothes. She led him to Souta’s room to have him help with things but Souta was completely oblivious to everything.

“Souta, I need your help for a minute.”

“……”

Kagome walked up to the outlet and unplugged the game. “Souta come on I don’t have time for this.”

“Kagome what was that for?!? I was almost to the last boss! Now the games lost and I’m going to have to start all over..”

“Well then you should have saved it beforehand. Look squirt I just need your help for a minute. I need to go out on some errands but Sesshomaru won’t let me go without him and I am not helping a grown man dress himself so you have to.”

“Whaaaat?! I don’t want to do it he’s your boyfriend!”

At this Sesshomaru raised an eyebrow. Him, her boyfriend? He wasn’t even sure what that was but by the way the siblings were acting he believed it to be something like courtship.

“This Sesshomaru is no one’s boyfriend, let alone the miko’s, boy.”
Mrs.Higurashi walked in just then with the clothes and smiled setting them on the bed.

“I hope these fit you Sesshomaru, my husband seems to have been around the same size as you, but it’s been so long since I’ve seen him, I’m just not sure.. Let me know how they fit alright?”

“Hmm very well, this Sesshomaru will do so.”

Souta looked at the clothes which not only included a shirt, pants, shoes, and socks, but also a pair of underwear.

“Do I really have to do this sis, I mean he is you boyfri-“

“He’s not my boyfriend Souta now just help him put on the stupid clothes before I strangle you with them!!”

“Alright, alright I’ll do it but you gotta leave first.”

Kagome rolled her eyes and walked out of the room as she shut the door. She went downstairs and into the kitchen to help her mom with the dishes while she waited for him to change, and probably get mad about not being able to wear his sword or something like Inuyasha would do before. She could hear footsteps and so she walked into the front room and grabbed her wallet.

When she could see him she thought he looked great in modern clothes. They were baggy like his clothes, just less flared out and yet they still showed his muscles. The only thing off was the fact that one of his arms were still gone.


“Well you ready Sesshomaru? And remember, you can’t hurt anyone here.”

“Hn, this Sesshomaru remembers what was said, do not act as though I am a fool miko.”

“…let’s just go. See you mom, were going to go and get some things I need before we go back.”

“Alright dear have fun.”

With that Kagome walked out the door with Sesshomaru close behind her. She was still really nervous about what he might do, but she really hoped that he would keep his promise and not hurt anyone, especially when her friends showed up because she knew they would more than likely annoy him to high hell.
Kagome needed more clothes to take with her, especially since the majority of the ones she owned were tore apart or stained beyond repair. Sesshomaru wouldn’t stay outside of the store like she wanted and so he was getting looks from every which way as they walked through.

This was annoying Sesshomaru, he didn’t care too much for females. Sure he would lay with a demoness if he felt like it but he still didn’t care about them, but a human? That was out of the question, and he knew that the majority of the women looking at him were thinking that, their sent gave it away clear as day.
His demonic markings were concealed, however he could still hear what all of the woman in the store were saying. Many were inappropriate and many were pointed towards the miko he was with.

“Why would someone like him want to be with someone like her? I could give him so much more!”

“Does she really think she’s good enough for him, I mean look at her!”

What he didn’t know at first was that Kagome could actually hear most of the women talking and it started to upset her. He couldn’t understand why it would though. He knew she was grateful for him saving her life, but she was in love with his half-brother as far as he knew. Even if she had feelings for the daiyokai, they wouldn’t be returned as far as he was concerned. But for some reason, the scent of her being upset bothered him, and without thinking, he let out a growl to the woman talking about them, which seemed to shut them up.’

Kagome didn’t know what was going on but she wasn’t going to ask, she found what she needed and after paying, they left and started walking towards the park. The one time she didn’t want to talk about anything, Sesshomaru actually tried to start a conversation with her.

“Your mother said these were your father’s clothes and yet she hadn’t seen him in a long time, what did she mean by that miko?”

She was stunned. She knew that if he said anything it would have been some rude side comment like it always was, and she had a feeling it would have to do with what the women in the store were saying, but when that came out of his mouth, she was completely stunned and just stood there looking at him.
Once they arrived at the park, they were standing in front of a small pond with a mother duck and some ducklings swimming close behind. This wasn’t a much better subject for her but she knew if she didn’t answer, Sesshomaru wouldn’t be in a much happier mood, not like he would be anyways but she didn’t want him yelling at her with how she felt at the moment.

“Speak miko, this Sesshomaru will listen”

“…Um, well alright. When I was about five, just after Souta was born, my father left for a business trip. When he came back, there was a drunk driver that had crossed over the middle line of the rode and slammed right into the front of his car. The car flew off the road and rolled a few times, smashing the top of the car in and killed him. My mother didn’t tell me until I was 13. I don’t remember him very well, but she said him and I were really close.”

“Hmn.”

“Of course that’s all you’re going to say.”

Sighing she walked over to the bench and sat down. Sesshomaru didn’t know why it upset her as it did where she said she didn’t remember her father, but he didn’t feel like listening to the girl’s life story so he kept quiet and stood next to where she sat.
An hour passed and Sesshomaru could finally catch her scent changing. He heard her sigh and stand up as she picked up her bags. Just before they started walking, Sesshomaru could smell three female scents coming straight towards them just before an ear piecing yell about made his eardrums explode.

“KAGOME!!!!!”

Kagome set her bags down and turned around to where the yell came from and sure enough, there were Yuka, Eri and Ayumi walking straight towards them waving to her.
